The Cognitive Neuroscience Lab focuses on issues of spatial cognition, i.e. the acquisition, representation, and usage of spatial information in biological and artificial systems. Human spatial behaviour is investigated with virtual reality technology (Dr. Gregor Hardiess) addressing questions of the 'ontology' of spatial long-term memory as well as the interaction of eye-movements and spatial working memory in normals and in hemianopic patients (cooperation with Prof. U. Schiefer, University Eye Hospital). Experimental work is motivated by paradigms from robot navigation, including optical flow processing and graph-based models of spatial memory (Dr. Chunrong Yuan). Computational theories of spatial cognition are tested by synthesizing spatial behaviour on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and other robot platforms.
