Neurophysiology of Visual and Decision Processes (Nienborg)

Junior Research Group

Our goal is to advance our understanding of the neural mechanisms of visual perception at the network level with single cell resolution.  During visual perception, our prior knowledge about the world is combined with the incoming visual information to generate a percept.  We seek to understand the circuitry and the computations of how responses in early visual cortex are dynamically modulated by cognitive processes and used to form decisions in different contexts.  To do so, we combine multi-electrode recordings with computational, neural stimulation and psychophysical techniques.

Our work is funded by the European Research Council
