In order to spark interest in neurosciences already in high school, the CIN together with the Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research has implemented a Neuroscience Lab for High School Students (Schülerlabor Neurowissenschaften) that has received considerable attention from high schools and teachers from all over the state of Baden-Württemberg and beyond in the ten years it has been operating. This appreciation is shown by the fact that the Neuroscience Lab for High-School Students has been awarded external funding and prizes from charitable foundations (the Hertie, the Robert Bosch and the Klaus Tschira Foundations) and from a German government initiative.
The Neuroscience Lab offers 12 practical courses that are adjusted to the high schools' curricula. They not only provide hands-on experience to support theoretical education at school but attempt, furthermore, to bridge high school curricula and current research topics. In addition, the Neuroscience Lab offers continuing education for high school teachers. Several thousand visitors – high school students and teachers – have already made use of its unique training opportunities.
