Field of Research

Brain activity is characterized by a multitude of temporal as well as metabolic and functional scales. We utilize multimodal techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the healthy and diseased brain. These two slow and medium time scale techniques are acquired simultaneously in dedicated PET/MR systems. In addition we work on integrating electroencephalography (EEG) for triple modality PET/MR/EEG to investigate slow, medium and fast timescales as well as metabolic, hemodynamic and electrical brain activity. Here we study not only stimulus evoked brain function but also anatomical and functional brain connectivity (Connectomics) in combination with metabolic brain connectivity (Cometomics) derived from PET. This work aims in understanding the enigmatic nature of brain function in health and disease and has the potential to ultimately impact patient treatment decisions.  


We use multimodal imaging techniques such as PET, fMRI and EEG mostly in simultaneous settings (e.g. PET/MR/EEG) in combination with dedicated data analysis.
